Hans van Breukelen stops as technical director at KNVB
Hans van Breukelen has decided to step down from his position as technical director at the KNVB on 1 August next. The former international says goodbye to the football association after 13 months.
The KNVB management respects Van Breukelen’s choice to leave. “It’s a shame, but we are separating in a good way,” said Jean-Paul Decossaux on behalf of the amateur and professional football directors. ‘As technical director, Hans has set a lot in motion within the union and football, we are grateful to him for that.’
As technical director, Van Breukelen is responsible for all football matters within the KNVB until 1 August. He developed, among other things, the Winners of Tomorrow plan, the plan that should take Dutch football further in the future.
Good feeling
‘I leave with a good feeling, because I know that I have done everything I can to achieve our objectives,’ says Van Breukelen. ‘But I remain self-critical. I have not been able to achieve my – and our – ambitions sufficiently. I draw my conclusions from that. I wish the KNVB all the best and keep hoping for a Dutch team at the upcoming World Cup and a successful WEURO for the women. I believe in the strength of our football and it will remain so. ‘
